Homily - 5th Sunday after Pentecost - 6/23/13

Homily given on the 5th Sunday after Pentecost and on the Baptism, Chrismation and First Communion of a newly born member of the parish.  In his homily, Fr. Rankin spoke of how the early church called the Sacrament of Confession a Second Baptism due to the fact that it restores our baptismal purity.

Fr. Rankin reflected on the Gospel reading for today, the Gadarenes demoniacs mentioned in Matthew 8:28 - 9:1 and how appropriate this scripture was in regards to the newly enlightened Servant of God, Nicholas Steven.  Baptism in not just pushing out the darkness, but bringing in the light of Christ.  Fr. Rankin finished by reflecting on a sermon of Pope Francis on Evangelium Vitae.
